FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED!!!

Mrs. Winfried Lorraine Trice Headen was born January 2, 1928, to the late Roy G. Trice Sr. and Essie Womack Trice. She departed her earthly home on December 7, 2023. She was fondly called “Wint” by her family and friends; her papa called her “Ma”. Wint was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Headen.

She was educated in the Durham Public Schools and was a 1944 graduate of Hillside High School.

Wint joined White Rock Baptist Church at an early age and in 1988 she joined her family at Mt. Zoar Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Mt. Zoar Gospel and Traveler’s Ensemble Choirs, Kitchen Committee, Tuesday Morning Bible Class, and the Deaconess Board.

Winfried was a member of Prospect Chapter #379, OES-PHA, The Golden Circle #218, and Zafa Court #41. She was also a longtime member of the Friendly Forty Christian Club and she served as Treasurer for the Durham Branch of the AARP for six years.

Winfried and Theodore were married for more than 60 years and to this union two children were born, Delores Yvonne Headen and Theodore Douglas Headen.

Winfried retired from Duke University Hospital after 40 years of service; she was employed as a Clinical and Research Technician. As a Research Technician, she participated in many experiments and her name was included on the published papers. She was very proud of this accomplishment.

Winfried loved to travel. Her travels first started with Ms. Hastie Price for many years. She later traveled with the Yahama Social Club. Winfried looked forward to summer months when she did most of her traveling.

Wint was also preceded in death by her brothers: Roy Trice, Jr., Benjamin Trice, Ervin Trice and Oscar Trice and by her sisters: Louise T. Moore and Minerva T. Fields, her grandson Stevie Sellers, and daughter-in-law Gwendolyn A. Crews Headen.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Delores Y. Headen, her son Theodore D. Headen, her sister in-law Janetta Trice-Gadsden (Charlotte, NC), her granddaughter Kimberly Headen and great-granddaughter Makayla Headen. A host of relatives and friends also cherish her memory and celebrate her life, as she was an inspiration to many.
