Shelly Darnel Burton, Sr. was born on April 24, 1944 to the late Robert Lee and Mattie Oliver Burton in Roxboro, NC. The Lord called him to his heavenly home on the evening of Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
The first born of 6 children, Shelly graduated from Merrick Moore High School in 1962.
On April 24, 1965, Shelly married Carol Scott Burton and remained married for more than 58 years. To this union, a son was born.
Shelly was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert Lee and Mattie Oliver Burton; one sister – Louise Burton-Alston; and one brother – Harold Esau Burton.
Left to cherish Shelly’s memories are his devoted wife, Carol Scott Burton; his son – Shelly Burton, Jr. of Durham, NC; two brothers – Wayland H. Burton (Michelle) of Rougemont, NC and Robert Wayne Burton (Valecia) of Clayton, NC; and one sister – Donna Burton-Hancock (Clarence-deceased) of Fairborn, OH. He also leaves two granddaughters – Kaci and Jessica; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Shelly was a valued member of the Union Baptist Church Trustee Board in Durham, NC until he became unable to serve.
