To the family and friends of Barbara Logan Cooke, please accept my condolences. She and my mother, Raven Rivera Elliott, were college roommates at Fisk and good friends over many years. After my father passed, I brought my mom from Detroit to live with me in Boston. That was the time I got to overhear their telephone conversations. That's when I felt the value their friendship of over 60 years meant to each other. I also knew how much the CD produced by Dr. Cooke meant to my mom, particularly as my father's health declined and after his passing. I was blessed by these experiences and knowing how much those calls meant to mom. I will continue to keep her memory and her family in my heart and prayers.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. There is a very comforting scripture found at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can look forward to a time when death will be done away with forever. I hope that this scripture can bring some comfort during this time.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in God's sure promise to restore our dear loved ones to life by means of a resurrection to a paradise earth, where sickness and death will be no more. "The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28,29) I hope that reflecting on these thoughts and your wonderful memories give you a measure of comfort during this difficult time.

To all of Barbara's family, especially David and India, you have our deepest Sympathy and Condolences. If need anything when get here, call me. Love and Prayers, Anita and Rosemond

To you who were my childhood friends India and David in memory of my Mama who was Barbara's childhood friend. I remember Mama telling me about the fun she and Barbara had finding the funniest old lady birthday cards, each year the competed to find the "worst one" to send each other. Barbara delighted in telling me she was the youngest. Mrs. Cook - who I will always call her - taught me piano lessons and often told me I have the long fingers of a concert pianist. I think of her now as I use the lessons she taught me to help my granddaughters with their piano lessons. India and David - I wish you peace and encourage you to remember the good times.

To Mr. David Cooke, III and Family

I was very saddened to read of the transition of your beloved mother and my Piano Instructor while a student at North Carolina Central University. As a Music Major, I was shifted all around the music building, from Dr. Cooke to Dr. Kennedy to Dr. Saunders in basement. I'll never forget the first day I entered your mom's office, I was somewhat nervous, being a freshman and not knowing about college life, I was comforted in knowing that your mom knew my family and your father was from "Weldon".

I have so many fond memories of my Tuesday and Thursday sessions with her. Actually, we didn't get anything done, cause we spent that hour playing on the piano, she would often ask me to serenade her, and she still gave me a good grade.

Your mother was truly extraordinary, unique, fashionable and just simply a kindhearted and loving woman who I am proud to have had her impact my life in such a small and unique way.

May you and your family be comforted in this hour!

To the Cook and Logan family I send this message to let you that you are in my payers and heart. "Aunt Barbara" as I called her was a wonderful, joyous, kind lady, and a part of my life since W. G. Pearson School, she had a great sense of humor.
May she rest in peace!

To the Cooke Family,
I took piano lessons from Mrs. Cooke 1974 to 1980. During those years, I loved talking with Mrs. Cooke, visiting with Dr. Cooke during his illness, and playing in her beautiful home. Over the years as we spoke on the phone, I don't like to believe Mrs. Cooke minded that I enjoyed her loving and caring spirit more than I enjoyed the piano lessons (smile) . Thank you for sharing Mrs. Cooke with me and all of her piano students.

Barbara was a neighbor who taught me refresher piano lessons and ignited my love for the piano again. We became close friends with much to talk about and much more to laugh about. She truly was the most amazing woman I have ever met in my lifetime. She also filled a void in my life left by the death of my husband. When I heard of Barbara's passing, I immediately went to the piano and played "Sometimes I feel..." and cried sad and happy tears for having been associated with this woman. Love you, Barbara
