Shelly Denece Canady was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina on July 23, 1984 to Deneen Canady and Rodney Person. She departed this life on Friday, March 5, 2021 at her home in Columbia, South Carolina.
Shelly attended the Durham Public School System where she graduated from Hillside High School and went on to attend North Carolina Central University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
Shelly attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church as a young girl where she sung in the Sunbeam choir and the Young Adult Choir. She was employed by Duke Healthcare System until moving to South Carolina where she was employed at NHC Healthcare PA.
Shelly had a passion for making jewelry, especially for her aunts and grandmother. She loved to see people happy.
“Friends for life” she often said about her childhood, best friends Andrea Hargrow, Latoria Wigfall, Renee Bush and Heather Lee. They often spent time at Shelly’s mother’s house trying to see what they could get into without Shelly’s mom knowing and her sister Tearaney telling.
Shelly loved all of her cousins, there were like sisters and brothers. One In particular, John, if Shelly had a sore throat, John had a sore throat. Shelly had her tonsils out and John had his tonsils out. Shelly had a flat tire, John had a flat tire. Unbreakable those two were.
As Shelly got older, she accomplished the biggest thing in her life and that was having Chaise, her pride and joy.
Preceding Shelly in death was her maternal grandfather Conway Canady, her paternal grandfather John Person, her uncle CL and cousins LaRiesha Hart, Jai McNeil and Noravia Silmon.
Shelly leaves to cherish her heart her son Chaise Jakai Garrett man of the home, her mother Deneen Canady Chance and bonus dad Gregoray Chance of Benson, NC, her father Rodney Person and bonus mom Andrea Person of Columbia, SC, two sisters Tearaney Canady of Benson, NC and Courtney Person of Boston, MA. Two brothers, Tyler Person (Andrea), Johnathan Gals of Charlotte, NC. Her maternal grandmother Lillie Canady of Garner, NC her paternal grandmother Linda Bower of Asheboro, NC. Her nephews Corbin Gales and Ormari Brown and her niece Jonae Gales. Seven aunts, Mary Evans, Helen Bessard (Michael), Tina Hinton, Brenda Sanders (Danny), Rosalind Canady, Arleen Webster and Sandra Holland. Three uncles, Otis Canady (Delphine), Charles Canady and Gerald Canady. Four best friends Andrea Hargrow, Renee Bush, Latoria Wigfall and Heather Lee and a host of great aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
